Top 5 Team Shirts at World Cup 2022

Joji Imamiya our fashionista in Tokyo chooses his top five team jerseys for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Football and fashion are a winning combination so who won the World Cup for the best kits at the 2022 World Cup?

The Nippon style guru's top five fashionable kits are Germany (home), Mexico (away), South Korea (away), Netherlands (home) and, of course, Japan (home).

Germany (Home)

Germany may not have performed so well on the pitch in Qatar, crashing out of Group E behind Japan and Spain but they looked great on it. Die Mannschaft also found time to make a statement about human rights in this classic kit with a team photo with each player with his hand over his mouth. Produced, of course by German mega-brand Adidas, this shirt is seriously slick and stylishly straightforward. The big black stripe in the middle is also oddly refreshing. The away jersey is also pretty cool, too. Check it out.

Mexico (Away)

El Tri also did not have the best of tournaments on the field in the desert. Failing to progress from Group C, Mexico disappointed their legions of loyal sombrero-wearing fans who had made the long and expensive trip to the Middle East. However, on the field they looked great. The Mexicans sported an away strip that was part mescaline trip with its attractive Aztec graphics, truly a winning combination. Produced in style by Adidas.

South Korea (Away)

South Korea did escape Group H along with Portugal and also won in the football fashion field. Rivaling Mexico in the hallucinogenic stakes, Korea Republic's away kit is a Jackson Pollock-inspired piece of on-your-chest in-your-face shirt art. Nike produced, this shirt reminds us of space exploration and a style similar to nobody. If you look at Puma kits, for example, they all follow the same pattern. This is out there. Unused in this World Cup, unfortunately.

Netherlands (Home)

The Oranje crashed out on penalties in a fractious quarterfinal with Argentina after progressing easily from Group A. Produced by Nike, the black logo contrasts nicely with the almost gold-looking orange. Again the designer may have spent time in Amsterdam's renown coffee shops to come up with this colorful and somewhat hippy, drug-inspired creation.

Japan (Home)

Japan exceeded expectations by winning Group E ahead of past winners Germany and Spain. They also won plaudits for their stylish on-pitch attire. Adidas backed a trendy winner here with the use of yellow, which adds a new dimension to previous, rather plain Samurai Blue shirts. The sharp shapes of blue and white make the shirt a clean and stylish top. Great to wear out and about in Shibuya and Shinjuku and just about everywhere.
