Toše Proeski Arena (National Arena Toše Proeski) is the national stadium of the North Macedonia national football team for most games and the home ground of both Macedonian First League clubs Vardar and Rabotnichki. Previous names include City Park Stadium and Philip II National Arena.

The ground is the largest stadium in North Macedonia. The pitch size is 105 x 68 meters, featuring a natural grass surface and LED floodlights. The stadium hosted the 2017 UEFA Super Cup and European Championship and World Cup qualifying games.

History

The stadium was originally built in 1947 and was known initially as the Gradski Stadion (1947-2009) and then as the National Arena until it was renamed in 2008 following the death of Toše Proeski, who was widely loved for his musical talent and philanthropic efforts.

His untimely passing in a car accident on October 16, 2007, at the age of 26, led to an outpouring of national grief. In 2008, the stadium was renamed Toše Proeski Arena to honor his memory and contribution to Macedonian culture. The Macedonian singer and songwriter was known as the "Elvis Presley of the Balkans".

In the years following its construction, Toše Proeski Arena underwent several upgrades to improve its facilities and capacity. Notably, a significant renovation took place between 2010 and 2013, which expanded its seating capacity, improved infrastructure, and added modern amenities to meet international standards. 80% of the seats are covered.

Toše Proeski Arena's capacity is 33,011.

Uses

FK Vardar, one of the most successful football clubs in North Macedonia, also calls Toše Proeski Arena home. The club was founded in 1947 and has won multiple domestic league titles and cups.

They are the most successful club in the country and have competed in the Europa League in the 2017-2018 season.

FK Rabotnichki are another successful club in the Macedonian First League and have competed in the UEFA Cup and the qualifying rounds of various European competitions. They faced Liverpool in 2010 in the qualifying round of the Europa League.

As well as soccer games, the stadium has been used for music concerts and other events. Toše Proeski, Pink, Carlos Santana, David Guetta and Sting have all performed here.

The ground is located in the center of Skopje, making it easy to reach on foot or by public transport. It is a 15-minute walk from the main square and The Church of Saint Clement of Ohrid. The town's zoo is adjacent to the ground.

North Macedonia borders both Kosovo and Serbia to the north, Albania to the west, Bulgaria to the east and Greece to the south.
