Toronto

Toronto is Canada's largest city and the capital of the Canadian province of Ontario. It has a population of about 3 million in the city proper and over 6 million in the Greater Toronto Area, making it the 4th largest city in North America and a major economic, financial and cultural hub.

Founded in the late 18th century as the British settlement of York, it grew rapidly through immigration and trade and was renamed Toronto in 1834.

Today, the city is known for its diversity (about half of its residents were born outside of Canada) and landmarks such as the CN Tower, Royal Ontario Museum, and the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO), founded in 1900.

Add to the mix vibrant local neighborhoods, professional sports teams (Toronto Maple Leafs - NHL, Toronto Raptors - NBA, Toronto Blue Jays - MLB, Toronto FC - MLS, and a lively waterfront on Lake Ontario.

Toronto lies very close to the United States: the nearest U.S. border is across Lake Ontario, roughly 50 km (30 miles) away, while the major land border crossing at Niagara Falls is about 130 km (80 miles) to the south.

Vancouver in Canada.
Vancouver, Canada

Vancouver

Vancouver is a major coastal city in British Columbia, with a population of about 675,000 in the city proper (making it the third-largest metropolitan area in Canada after Toronto and Montreal) and roughly 2.6 million in the wider metropolitan area.

Originally inhabited by Indigenous peoples for thousands of years, it developed in the late 19th century as a logging and port town and was incorporated in 1886, quickly growing due to trade, immigration, and its Pacific location.

Situated between the Pacific Ocean and the Coast Mountains, Vancouver is known for its natural beauty and mild climate.

The city's main attractions include Stanley Park, Granville Island, Gastown, Vancouver Aquarium, nearby ski resorts like Whistler, and a vibrant food and arts scene. The city's major sports teams are the Canucks (NHL) and Vancouver Whitecaps FC (MLS).

Vancouver is very close to the United States, with the nearest U.S. border at Blaine, Washington, approximately 45 km (28 miles) south of downtown.
